The FLEDC Board of Directors has approved $150,000 to $200,000 for emergency relief funds for Yates County businesses impacted by the recent floods. The loans will be at 0% and will have flexible payback schedules. We are in the beginning stages of establishing this fund, so please bear with us as we get things up and running. Services being offered by The Living Well:
• Free laundry service at Main Laundry in Penn Yan, for those affected by the flood, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am-5:00pm
• The Well, located at the Penn Yan UMC (look for the blue canopy on the corner of Chapel and Main Streets) will be open from 8:30-5:00pm. Volunteers can go there to get assignments for clean-up.
• Anyone who needs help can also call The Well (315-521-6883) or stop in
• At The Well folks can find cleaning supplies, personal care items, paper towels, etc.
• The Haven Church (located at 5 Collins Avenue) is collecting household items and clothes for distribution. You can drop off items or get items you need

Services being offered by The American Red Cross:
- The Shelter at Penn Yan Academy will be open until Monday, May 19 at noon
- There is a Red Cross Unit on Main Street that has cleaning kits and bottled water. They are also available to connect you with other resources you may need.
Tetanus Shot Clinic Offered by Public Health
If you are unable to receive a tetanus shot from your primary physician and you are concerned that you are at risk, you may come to the Yates County Public Health Office on Monday, May 19 from 9am-11am to get a free tetanus shot. If you are unable to come during that timeframe, you may can 315-536-5160 to schedule an appointment. According to the CDC: Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. Tetanus bacteria are everywhere in the environment, including soil, dust and manure. The bacteria can get into the body through broken skin, usually through injuries from contaminated objects.
Certain breaks in the skin that are more likely to get infected with tetanus bacteria. These include:
- Wounds contaminated with dirt, poop (feces), or spit (saliva)
- Wounds caused by an object puncturing the skin, like a nail or needle (puncture wounds)
- Burns
- Crush injuries
- Injuries with dead tissue
